Meningitis B Outbreak – Patient Information
Current NHS Guidance
At this time, there has been no change to national NHS advice for GP practices.
- Since 2015, all children aged 2 years and under have routinely been offered the Meningitis B vaccine as part of the NHS immunisation schedule.
- We are not currently advised to provide additional doses or vaccinations outside of the routine programme.
- GP practices can only offer the vaccine to patients who meet the eligibility criteria set by the NHS.
If you are unsure whether you or your child have received the vaccine, you can check your vaccination record on the NHS App.
Symptoms of Meningitis
Meningitis can develop quickly. It’s important to know the signs:
- High fever
- Severe headache
- Neck stiffness
- Aversion to bright lights
- Vomiting
- Rash that does not fade when pressed (seek urgent medical help)
